A “hybrid” heat pump water heater works like a refrigerator, but in reverse. It uses reliable technology to move heat from the air surrounding the water heater and transfers it to the tank to make hot water for your home. It replaces your existing water heater.

An Energy Star certified water heater, such as the Bradford White models Burns & McBride installs, uses up to 70% less electricity to heat the same amount of hot water as a standard electric model.

Benefits of Heat Pump Water Heaters

Rebates and Tax Credits

What is a “Heat Pump” or “Hybrid” Water Heater and How Does It Work?

The cost of a heat pump water heater can be offset with rebates from Energize Delaware of $1,100 plus a federal tax credit of up to $2,000

Rebates: Energize Delaware will pay a rebate of $1,100, directly to the homeowner, toward the purchase of a qualifying heat pump water heater

Federal Tax Credit: Homeowners can receive a federal tax credit for purchasing an electric heat pump water heater. The amount of the credit is 30% of the cost of the job up to a maximum of $2,000. It must be an existing home which is your principal residence. Remember a tax credit comes off of your federal tax bill. It is not the same as a rebate.
