Home Heating Efficiency

Do you know what the largest energy expense is in the U.S. home? You guessed it – heating! Heating can be costly, but it doesn’t have to be. A service plan is more than just protection against a broken heater. Your system will run better. Check out this infographic “Everything You Need to Know About Home Heating” from energy.gov. See those columns for “efficiency” and “life expectancy” in the Heating Systems section? A True Comfort service plan can improve both of those metrics dramatically – keeping your system alive and well through the most brutal of Northeast winters.

Insulation is also very important for your home’s heating efficiency. Heat escapes from poorly insulated ductwork and leaves your home feeling less than comfortable. Heat can also escape from door trappings, windows, and other places. The Department of Energy has a helpful infographic (page 7) here that shows a number of places in your home where heat will try to make a break for it. Of course, keeping more hot air locked into your home means the home will heat faster and your heater will run less often, lowering your bill.

Heating Rebates & Incentives

Regional rebates are available for property owners looking to upgrade to more energy-efficient heating equipment. For a full list of active residential rebates, refer to the Database of State Incentives for Renewables and Efficiency or call us.

Delaware property owners have access to Energize Delaware. The Energize Delaware program provides instant rebates for Delaware homeowners who choose to make energy-friendly upgrades to their properties. Burns & McBride has helped Delaware owners receive more than $500,000 in rebates through this program. Following any of these qualifying upgrades, your utility bills will fall and your home will be more comfortable. Energize Delaware is a local sponsor of Home Performance with ENERGY STAR, a national program from the U.S. Department of Energy. You can view the Home Performance with Energy Star PDF here.
